Job Description and Requirements

Camp Counselor job duties include:

  • Working with children ages three through ten on farm-related tasks, chores, and activities. The Counselor does not need any prior knowledge related to these activities.

  • Assisting the teachers with set up and clean up of camp activities

  • Assisting teachers and Camp Director in running camp activities. Camp counselors are not expected to plan or prepare for camp activities.

  • Helping to maintain the safety practices and standards set out by the Camp Director.

  • Adhering to all guidelines for Oakview Farm and the Farm Camp. No technology use will be allowed during work hours. This includes listening to music, texting, phone calls, social media. The camp Director's phone will be used for emergencies as needed. Photography of camp participants on personal cell phones is also strictly prohibited.

  • Participate in a paid inservice related to the Farm Camp's methodology, nature-based play, and first aid/weather related incidents.

  • Working the following days/times:

    • June 2-6 8:00 AM= 3:00 (1 hour paid lunch break)- 7 hrs day/ 35 hrs/wk

    • June 9-13 8:00 AM= 3:00 (1 hour paid lunch break)- 7 hrs day/ 35 hrs/wk

    • June 16-20 8:00 AM= 12:00 PM (1/2 hour paid lunch break)- 4 hrs day/ 20 hrs/wk

    • June 23-27 8:00 AM= 12:00 PM (1/2 hour paid lunch break)-4 hrs day/ 20 hrs/wk

    • Total hours over four weeks: 110 hours

  • 8 hours of UNPAID sick leave, to be used in any increments throughout the Camp season, with the Director's permission

  • The Counselor will be paid at the END of all of the camp sessions, on June 27th. If the Counselor does not work the agreed upon hours, as listed above minus the sick leave, the payment will be withheld.

  • Pay is $16-$18 an hour, depending on experience.

Oakview Farm & Forest Camp is a nature-based outdoor-only Summer Farm camp for ages four through twelve. This is our fifth year of operation, proudly serving children and their families in the Middle Tennessee area. Our mission is to instill a sense of awe and wonder in children for the natural world, through hands-on experiences related to small-scale, sustainable farming.
